- Butler's Lives of the Saints: January, includes Gildas Sapiens ("the Wise," Jan. 29), a pupil of Abbot Illtud and author of the only surviving 6th-century treatise, De Excidio et Conquestu Britanniae ("The Downfall and Conquest of Britain," which was more of a fire-and-brimstone sermon than a historical record :).

- Butler's Lives of the Saints: March, includes David (Dafydd, March 1), patron saint of Wales, and Patrick (Patricius or Padraic, March 17), patron saint of Ireland.
